The Love of Money is the Root of all Evil: Not Homosexuality, Abortion, or ‘Wokeness’

To win the war against the evils of the world, believers must focus on all the evils that stem from the love of money and how it can and will corrupt a wholesome society. They cannot become distracted by fighting smaller battles because they will inevitably lose the war.

The Love of Money is the Root of all Evil: Not Homosexuality, Abortion, or ‘Wokeness’

Talk about misplaced priorities. In the current spiritual warfare believers fight against the world and all its evils, too many so-called Christians are targeting the branches of evil and ignoring the root.

The Lord tells us in His word that, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?” Luke 14:28, 31.

Apparently, a large sect of the Christian church has been being distracted by cultural transgressions and political matters causing them to overlook the root of all evil. In many sermons and in many parables, Jesus talked about the dangers of placing your faith into the wrong things, mostly money and riches, and the things of the world and the pride of life.

He also warned that focusing too much on other people’s sins and not your own is one of the greater transgressions. “The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.” Luke 18:11. He constantly reminds us of the many distractions of the world and that we must stay in the faith.

Jesus gave us the perfect example of resisting the things of the world and the glory of it when he rebuked the devil after he was tempted of him. The devil offered Jesus all the power and wealth of the world to distract him from what was important, which was focusing on God and His word.

“And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Luke 4:8.

The apostles also, warned of the dangers of the love of money and how it would lead believers away from the faith of the gospel. How it would bring sorrow and lead them into temptations, and into many foolish and hurtful lust. “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith,..” 1 Timothy 6:10.

He talked about it being nearly impossible for rich men to enter into His kingdom and other messages to His followers, warning them that money is a sure distraction from the obedience needed to please God. “For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” Luke 18:25.

With the many warnings against the love of money and the things of the world, the Bible teaches us that believers should beware of this seduction and temptations of lust more than anything else. However, the church leaders and believers today have been blinded by the distractions and are neglecting the real danger.

Instead of settings their sights on the sins that stem from the root of the love of many, and the damage it does to society, they have set their sights on the branches of sin such as homosexuality, abortion and wokeness (a term invented by conservative Christians that indirectly label different cultures, races, other religions, political policies and lifestyles other than white, Christian conservatism, as sinful).

They turn their heads to gun violence, racial hatred, political corruption and bribery and they are more concerned with school curricula, drag queens, and what they call socialist theories of government policy. They leave off praying and fighting for the homeless and unjustly incarcerated, the fatherless and widows, victims of adultery, rape, and domestic violence, and people oppressed by wealthy and rich men. They ignore the struggles of children in poverty, the oppression of workers’ wages and the corporate exploitation that follows.

Though there are many sins that plague this country and the world, the love of money is clearly the root of it all. From wealth comes arrogance and indifference against the poor; cruelty, selfishness, disrespect toward God, and a psychological break from reality. The Bible warns us against the evils of rich men and the mindset it brings, it says: “But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?” James 27.

Church leaders are leading the flock to war in favor of the wealthy instead of against them, because they have lost faith and seek after prosperity and riches. They have become lukewarm by the distractions of the world. “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:” Revelation 3:17.

To win the war against the evils of the world, believers must focus on all the evils that stem from the love of money and how it can and will corrupt a wholesome society. They cannot become distracted by fighting smaller battles because they will inevitably lose the war.

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38.
