Christians who are Lost Look for Evidence of God’s Power

There are professors of Christ who lead flocks, teach bible theory, and worship in churches every Sunday but who lack the one thing needed that makes a true believer, which is faith. The scripture says that “without faith, it is impossible to please him.” Hebrews 11:6. These are men who trust in and teach theology and not God's power.

These people are prophesied about for the last days when perilous times will come, who “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” 2 Timothy 3:5. They are ever learning the word and its theories, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Verse 7. They go through their whole Christian lives in vain because they do not truly believe in God’s power.

They constantly seek evidence of the powers of God. They look for documented evidence after healings and miracles because they cannot see with their eyes any results from the promises of God. If they were living back in the days of ancient times, they would question Moses and ask for proof that there is a promised land by seeing the actual deeds.

They would request from Noah evidence that there will be rain in the forecast from scientist of the times. They would ask for a disclosed agreement from God when asked to sacrifice their sons or daughters on the alter as did Abraham. They would ask Jesus to prove the mountain was moved and to see the geographical blueprints of a mountain actually being moved.

“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” Mark 11:23.

Jesus himself promised the believers that they will be able to do all the things he has done, and even greater works. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” John 14:12. These things are done through the power of the Holy Ghost to those who receive it.

When the blind man cried for the Lord to have mercy on him, Jesus said “receive they sight, thy faith have saved thee. And immediately he received his sight.” Luke 18:42, 43. The reason miracles of this sort are not as prevalent today, is because men lack the faith needed. And when they are performed, they are still not believed by those who have no faith.

They do not believe there are apostles today or that prophesies are real or that true healing has taken place so they seek evidence from doctors and for miracles performed. What they do not understand is that it takes faith for the evidence to come to pass. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1.

You cannot see or have evidence of healing unless you believe. The evidence is there, but not meant to be seen, only believed. Faith empowers the healing or the miracle being performed yet these people do not have the faith to see the results; just as the scriptures predicts. They have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. The scriptures tell us to stay away from these people because they are contrary to God and His purpose.

Many acts of the Lord through men of today are hidden to those who do not believe and they will never see the powers of God. “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:” 2 Corinthians 4:3. Those who practice faith through the power of the Lord know that to perform a work of the Spirit, they have to put forth the effort to do so.

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” James 2:17, 18. Meaning, Abraham believed God to sacrifice Issac and did the work of placing Issac on the alter, which was his works on behalf of his faith.

Faith drives a person to do the work and afterward the evidence is seen. If a person does not believe from the beginning, they will not do the work. To cast out devils or heal the sick, the person must lay hands on the sick or command the demon from a person and not think about having evidence afterward. Just believe God. And those who are receiving the blessing must also believe.
