Why, And How To Be Saved

Being saved is the same as being born again. The reason for salvation is to be sure your soul goes to God after you die. All people are given a choice to believe in God or not and those who do believe are drawn by God throughout their life to become saved. Once saved, the person knows beyond a doubt their soul is safe with God after death. This is the power of salvation, and salvation is not a hard task. The instructions are given in the Bible in St. John 3:3-5 and it reads;

3. “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4. “Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?”
5. “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”

The book of Acts explains it a different way using different words. It reads:

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38.

Both passages say the same thing by requesting a person must be born again by water and Spirit. Jesus himself gave an example of the new birth in the book of St. Matthew 3:16, and it reads:

“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:”

The new birth is the way into the kingdom of God for all people of the world. God speaks to all nations in their own native language and explains this. Once a person is born again, after they die, their soul will go to God and lay wait in heavenly places until the end and judgment of the world. If they are not born again, after they die their soul will lay and wait in Hell, a place where the Spirit and grace of God is not present. Hell literally means, “a place separated from God.”

To become saved, a person must first believe in God, repent of their sins, be water baptized, and ask for and receive the Holy Ghost.

Belief and faith

First, believe in God. Belief and faith are the same things, so a person must believe and have faith in God for their salvation to come. The scriptures says:

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Heb. 11:6).

Repentance

Next, a person must repent of their sins. Repentance is a sincere apology to God for all the conscious and unconscious sins that a person has committed throughout life.

“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of…what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge!” (2 Cor. 7:10, 11).

Water baptism

Then, we must be water baptized to wash away all old sins of the flesh as a symbol of being buried in death. “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Ro. 6:4). Thus, the water baptism begins for a person the start of a sinless life.
Receiving the Holy Ghost, or Holy Spirit

The Spirit baptism, the Holy Ghost, and the Holy Spirit is all the same thing. To be born of the Spirit is to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is the actual presence of God inside of the believer—if they receive it. It is real, only to those who believe, but to those who do not, it can never exist.

The Spirit not only saves your soul after death, it changes your life and who you are as a person. This miracle of God is that you can change who you are: your identity, your lifestyle, traditions and knowledge of the world, even your environment. You can be Born Again. Some people may love their current life and see no reason to change and there are some who vehemently desire change.

Once you are Born Again, the Spirit will change you from within and you will see the world as a different place and you will desire different things. Your understanding will become deeper and many questions will be answered with simplicities. Physical and emotional pains will begin to disappear and anger, hate, and misery will be replaced with an inner peace, happiness and a deeper love in the heart. Not only a love for people, but for God.
