Initially, the term “fake news” was primarily used by social media trolls to dismiss reputable news agencies that reported information they disagreed with or that fact-checked their conspiracy theories and exaggerated claims. However, it has now evolved into a self-fulfilling prophecy, reflecting the pervasive mistrust in the media and the challenges of discerning fact from fiction.

This change has a big impact on how we talk about issues in public and affects how much we trust the sources of information in our society today.

Many major and once respected news agencies have compromised their jobs and duties to the public by agreeing to withhold criticism of the next president and his administration, and some have bent the knee to bribery and threats of being sued, imprisoned or forced into unemployment.

Some reporters have spoken of they and their family members being threatened by supporters of the new administration if they go against the tide. Bomb threats, violent phone calls and emails have been shouted at reporters and politicians who are on the other side of the opposing political isle.

Furthermore, billionaires have purchased newspapers and social media platforms, cable news networks and radio stations to publish their agenda of propaganda laced with flattering words over the airways. Unfortunately, the news we will and are receiving is now being tainted and slanted to the wrong side of political discourse and will soon be documented as being on the wrong side of history.

To protect the public images of these new oligarchs and billionaires, the media is going to lie for them, hide their crimes and misdemeanors, and blame the people and the opposing party for the problems in society. It has already started with the murder of the United Healthcare CEO. The media is condemning the people for lack of sympathy yet lack the same in the murder of children in schools and mass shootings, or the people who suffer from chronic illness gone untreated.

The poor will be blamed for their plight while the wealthy will be praised in the spotlight and profiled on the covers of pop culture magazines. No more fact checks that uncover lies and misinformation. No more reports that poll the people as a representative of the country, but these will also be skewed with wrong information.

Reports of women being raped, mistreated by hospitals, immigrants coming up missing and people of color being killed by the police will all be hidden from public record, just to make the guilty look innocent and the day rosier.

You name it, new viruses will probably go unreported and deaths by those viruses. New plagues and illnesses will go unstudied and untreated and threats of real-world danger of wars and national security breaches will be undermined and blown off as just rumors. Distractions will multiply like drones and aliens in the sky, yet the wealthy will be seen as heroes and problem solvers while actually doing nothing.

This will be a dark time in the nation so people will need to measure the truths and dangers of society by what they see everyday when they walk out the door, where they frequent, and who they interact with every day. They should no longer depend on the media for information.

It will become a time of seeing is believing and knowing is a surety. But the mainstream media will not be a reliable source any longer. Because it is now the real fake news.
