One biblically ignorant US senator swore to God on television that he will support Israel to his death because of what the bible says in Genesis 12:3. And there are many other Christian Nationalist preachers and false prophets who claim the same scripture as an excuse to stand by Israel, regardless of what political and humanitarian moves they make.
These people are biblically illiterate and are leading millions of people astray because the verse they use has been negated by the words and authority of Jesus Christ under His New Covenant. These people are living under the curse of the laws of the Old Testament to the destruction of their own souls and use fear to manipulate others.
People have been taught that if they do not support Israel they will be cursed, referring to the scripture of Genesis 12:3 that reads, “and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:2, 3.
Yet they never followed up with the teachings of Christ on this same topic and new promises from the New Testament. The New Testament scriptures read, “Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.”
Galatians 3:7-9 extends the same promise to those who live by their faith in Jesus Christ, which includes not only Israel, but any nationality or anyone in the gentile nations. It further supersedes the Old Testament passage by reminding all those who believe and practice the passage of Genesis they must also believe and practice the rest of the laws of the Old Testament.
“For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:10-14.
Therefore, all those who believe by faith are the children of Abraham and receive the promise regardless of what nation they come from. There is now a new nation (the Church of Christ) of the promise made up of anyone who believes. As far as blessings and curses are concerned, Jesus also overrides the Genesis passage by preaching the promises of God in the sermon on the mount and those who are considered blessed.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for their’s is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for their’s is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” Matthew 5:3-12.
Thus, supporting Israel does not rise above having a pure heart, being merciful, a peacemaker, or any of the other blessings God promises to those who have faith. If a person simply wants to be blessed by God, they do not have to support Israel to do so, they can live the gospel according to Matthew 5. Yet, if they want to avoid the curses, they must not commit to portions of the Old Testament and not the entirety. This will bring the curse.
The final authority comes from the mouth of Jesus Christ because we no longer live under any national laws or ordinances of the Old Testament as it pertains to salvation and the will of God. Though Jesus said, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” Matthew 5:17, does not mean he has not made significant changes as to how to reach the righteousness of the Kingdom. We do so now by the promise of faith, not by the works of the law.
Jesus says he will also bring a curse on those who do not commit to the commandments of Jesus Christ under the New Testament. In the parable about the sheep and goat nations in Matthew 24:31, the nations that refused to take care of those in need were cursed.
“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.” Matthew 25:41-43.
Jesus and the apostles warned believers about being led astray by false prophets and teachers. Paul spoke against the Galatians about how they had drifted away from the gospel of Christ into another gospel of false doctrine. This action adds another curse to those who refuse to follow Christ and live in faith, instead of under the law.
“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:6-9.
So, when Christian Nationalist and politicians quote the scripture of Genesis 12:3 to justify their support for Israel, remind them that there is a New Covenant under the faith of Jesus Christ that overrides the promise made to Abraham in Genesis and includes all nations. Remind them that there are many blessings promised by Jesus to those who live by faith and not by the works of the law. And remind them that if they continue with the law, they must fulfill the whole law otherwise they will be cursed.
