Nothing of substance or that truly matters for the people is actually getting done. Rent and housing cost remain high and getting higher. Insurance on homes, cars, health, and anything required, continues to rise. Food cost, grocery bills, or fuel are not coming down and neither are utility cost.
People are still being overworked and under paid. The educational system has failed many and debt of student loans from higher learning are drowning others. It is more expensive to buy a new car, more people are being diagnosed with incurable diseases and being overly medicated, and children are facing adult-type sicknesses.
Any protections from contaminated food, water, and air have been taken away, which will bring forth even more health crises. Consumer protections against fraud, scams, and corporate exploitation have the courts on the side of big business instead of the interest of the consumer, and laws are being made to protect business against the people who work and spend with them.
People are still getting killed by public shooters, and now political assassinations and arrest of politicians are rising. Congress is not doing their jobs and avoiding the people at town halls. Lobbyist are bribing public figures who have insider information on the stock market, and judges are ruling in favor of their protection also.
Mass incarceration is up because private prisons is a big investment on the side of the ruling class elite to oppress poor families. Military morale is down and recruiting is dropping to levels not seen in this country’s history. Wars are breaking out around the world and US spending is even higher for the military.
Safety net programs are being taken away and people are losing their lifetime savings to investment firms and hedge fund managers on Wall Street. Unions have been disabled and workers are barely making ends meet, living pay check to pay check and one pay check away from homelessness, which is another problem that is increasing.
Nothing is getting better, only worse. But what do we see in the news and the work being done by leadership? Military parades, immigrant raids, discrimination against Black and brown people, and division among society all based on race and skin color; and a rise in white supremacy.
There are vigilante groups terrorizing civilians. Groups of masked men walking around in military gear threatening and following the orders of a deranged president hell bent on taking vengeance against his nonexistent enemies. It is all a distraction away from the fact that nothing is being done to better the country, but only to divide and conquer it, and for the rich to get richer while the people struggle to survive day to day.
