Every time there is a mass shooting or high profiled homicide, the people and politicians hang their heads is disgust, pray, and hope for change that someone will finally do something about the gun violence. Advocacy groups raise awareness, politicians do photo ops and press conferences, and families suffer the loss of a loved one.

The next day all goes silent; the media moves on to the next click bait headline, and people go about their lives until the next mass shooting of children or innocent people. We forget the urgency that called for change and bring our lives to a slow normal. With every shooting, murder of a family member and slaughter of children, we become more desensitized to the carnage.

But there is some good news and some bad news. The good news is gun violence is down around the country at 43,197 in 2023 down from 47,528 in 2022. The bad news is there were only 29,590 gun incidents in 2014, which includes all gun activity from accidents to murders to mass shootings and suicides. These numbers are off the charts for an advanced society, and the highest in the world. But this is our normal.

One would think that after an attempted assassination of a presidential figure, the leaders would move to ban the assault rifle used, but no, they do not seem to care. In times past, an incident like that would have called for action against guns; instead, the politicians who should be doing something wear assault rifle pins on their lapels like some kind of psychopathological fetish.

So, we sit back and move on as politicians and courts take vacations, give themselves raises, rule on menial policies of corporate interest, fetal rights, and fake stolen election claims while people and living children die by the hundreds every day from the overrated self-centeredness of second amendment rights.

The people in this country talk about how a cult has taken over half the country’s politics but never mention the cultic mindset of people who worship guns and the judges who give access of murder weapons to teenagers, the mentally ill, and anyone with an ID.

There is some wonder that maybe the leaders of this country do not care about the safety and wellbeing of its citizens. It comes from a long history of the sacrifice of the weak for the survival of the powerful. This is the most cultic mindset among humanity because not a damn thing has been done about the gun violence in over 20 years.
