The Coexistence of Religion and Science: through Understanding, Wisdom and Knowledge

There has always been a slight disregard for science among religious people who would rather choose to trust in the powers of God over the abilities of man. To various extents, people avoid certain medical professionals and procedures and choose to put their faith in God for natural healing, or in a form of herbal and more natural remedies.

People also choose to ignore certain psychological scientific theories of the human mind and behavior, astrological formations, and even weather-related events and changes to nature. On the other hand, some men choose to trust in scientific explanations of the world around us; based on logic, fact and reason. There are schools of higher learning for such academics in many different fields of science such as biology, astrology, physics and math, geography, archeology and even theology, the study of God.

However, never have there been such a divide among men as more recent during and after the Covid 19 virus hit the world. People of God, specifically in the United States, chose to ignore the science behind the virus to the point of social resistance because they refused to believe in the science or the governmental agencies behind the science. They refused the vaccine, and mask mandates, and requested alternative drugs and even accused the government of an authoritative form of social control.

Many believers disregard the science of climate change, believing there is no such thing and they reject and vote against any political policies designed to protect the earth against any changes. They believe the earth is always changing and there is no need to make any new laws and regulations. Groups and movements of people also reject the theories of Darwinism and the development of humanity and would rather teach the theory of creationism by a Supreme Being in the schools.

There is a cultural debate on when life begins and laws have been passed and withdrawn that accommodate both sides. The concept of freedom and human will, is up for interpretation and the ending of human life is left in the hands of men who believe they should have preeminence over the lives of many people, whether they live or die.

The wedge between the two have grown wider in the last 10 years and both religious and nonreligious people alike have aligned themselves with the political parties that address their beliefs. Both sides have strong grievances against the other, even to the point of violence. The truth is; believers of God should believe in science and nonreligious people should seriously consider the existence of God, because no one knows the absolute truth.

Believers of God should believe in science because God has inspired men throughout history to learn and study His creation. For instance, medicine; no one can break their arm and refuse treatment and only trust in God to heal them. God has gifted men to understand how to mend a broken bone. He has also given understanding and wisdom to men to learn about the insides of the human anatomy and how to heal that also.

Out of respect for medicine however, God gave believers the art of preventative maintenance for the body and mind in the form of sanctification. He teaches us to stay away from certain toxic and dangerous lifestyles that lead to internal bodily harm, mental and physical, but He teaches nonbelievers the same. He gives a dose of common sense that all people have so we can live decently and clean and survive the elements of the earth.

The Bible mentions the existence of outer space and the Orion, the power of the stars, moon and the Sun. “Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, Or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? Or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? Canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?” Job 38:31-33.

It mentions the cycles of the wind and the patterns of weather, so we should trust in men who have that knowledge and understanding of such things because it is God who gives men that knowledge. “And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.” Ecclesiastes 1:13.

Many men have sought the deep things of God even though they may not believe in God, they spend their lives searching for answers to the best of their mental abilities, and God inspires them to do so. However, the Bible teaches us not to get into disputes about science to the point that it diminishes our faith in Him. “O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:” 1 Timothy 6:20. But He never taught Not to believe in science.

We should trust in the inspiration that God has given to men. Believers need science as mush as nonbelievers need the inspiration of God. We cannot disregard things we do not fully understand simply because the men appointed to study those things are not believers. Unless a believer has given himself to learn all there is to know about life, the earth, and the universe, then we need each other to survive.

Nonbelievers should also believe in God because He has given them the understanding and wisdom to learn many things about how to heal, build, invent, survive, discover and evolve into what we are today. The scriptures read: “and of the princes; children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace…” Daniel 1:3, 4.

God gave man the knowledge and wisdom to make clothes, build structures, make music, to mine gold, silver, and other minerals of the earth to design and build homes and places of work. “…and he hath filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship;” Exodus 35:31.

God appointed men of the world to assist in building his tabernacle and the offices of the priest and the synagogues they dwelt in. He inspired them with His spirit: “And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.” Exodus 28:3.

When men begin to reject the knowledge of humanity because they are in disagreement with the men who have that knowledge, they become vain in their own imaginations and their foolish heart becomes dark. They begin to stumble at truth and reality and are then given over to reprobate and devilish mindsets of aggression, hate, idolatry and eventually rebellion.

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man…” Romans 1:22, 23. If a believer can trust in the powers of God, they also have to trust in God’s ability to inspire man to do His will, even though that man does not acknowledge him.
