The definition of Democracy is everyone gets a vote. The idea of every single person casting a vote and that vote determining the elected official seems to scare the hell out of Republicans. Why? Because they know that the majority of the people would not vote for them simply on their policies.

This is why they gerrymander districts, suppress the vote, and use methods of intimidation at the ballot box. They also lie about their positions on issues, pretend they care, and disguise policies in words that look like what the people want, such as “the Right to Work” laws. These laws actually take workers rights away instead of giving them any rights at all.

But it seems the people have had enough of the cheating and lies. The electoral college process is being challenged and will soon disappear if the current trends continue. According to recent data:

The trend comes as Americans have shown greater support in recent years for a more democratic presidential election process, without the translational risks of the electoral college. But the daunting requirement of changing the Constitution, where the electoral college is formally codified, has posed a challenge to both public and political support for the issue.”
